Performing and Visual Arts
-
The Performing and Visual Arts promote joy and engagement through rigorous, purposeful and meaningful learning experiences. In their Arts classes students develop expertise in key skills, knowledge and concepts which are fundamental to Visual Art, Music, Dance , Drama and Media Arts. Aligned with the National Core Arts Standards, instruction is comprehensive and sequential and focuses on the Artistic Processes: Creating, Performing/Producing/Presenting, Responding and Connecting, authentically reflecting the way artists think and work. Through Arts studies, students find their voice and gain self-discipline, perseverance and self-esteem. The collaboration required by these disciplines promotes respect, positive relationships and understanding of various cultures and perspectives. In New Haven Public Schools, the Arts are intrinsic to a well-rounded education and are core curriculum.
