  • NHPS Early Childhood Programs

    Head Start Pre-K Program 

    • Head Start is a free Pre-K program for children that are 3 & 4 years old as of September 1st. To qualify for Head Start, families must be income eligible based on the federal poverty guidelines or be receiving public assistance such as SNAP, TFA Cash, etc.  

    • Our NHPS Head start program provides school-day (6 hours) programming at the following sites: Dr. Reginald Mayo Early Learning Center, Fair Haven School, Family Academy of Multilingual Education, Hill Central Music Academy, John S. Martinez Sea & Sky STEM Magnet School, Lincoln-Bassett Community School, and Truman School. 

    School Readiness Pre-K Program 

    • School Readiness is a paid Pre-K program for children that are 3 & 4 years old as of September 1st, regardless of income. School Readiness utilizes a sliding fee scale based on the household’s total gross income and family size. Families that are eligible for Care 4 Kids can use this assistance to help pay for School Readiness tuition fees. 

    • Our NHPS School Readiness program provides school-day (6 hours) programming at the following schools: Family Academy of Multilingual Education, East Rock Community and Cultural Studies Magnet School, Hill Central Music Academy, and Nathan Hale School. 

     

    NHPS Early Childhood Programs

    The New Haven Public Schools Office of Early Childhood has centralized Pre-K registration for all programming. Registrations for Pre-K can be submitted online or in person at 54 Meadow St. 1st FL New Haven, CT, 06519 

     

    Documents needed to register: 

    • Verification of Age: 1 of the following
      Birth Certificate
      Passport 

    • Proof of Address: 1 of the following
      Rental Lease or Mortgage Statement
      Utility Bill: Electric, Gas, Water Etc.
      Husky or Snap Budget Sheet
      McKinney Vento Form or Residency Affidavit
      -Residency Affidavit (English)
      -Residency Affidavit (Spanish)  

    • Proof of Income: All that apply
      Public Assistance (Budget Sheet): SNAP, TANF, SSI
      2 Months’ worth of Paystubs
      W2 or 1040 Tax Return
      Letter from Employer
      Zero Income Letter 

    • Proof of Physical (within 1 year)
      Yellow form with Immunization Attached (TB Assessment, Lead & Anemia Levels required) 

    • Health Insurance Card (For Head Start Only) 

    • Proof of Dental (within 6 months) (For Head Start Only)
      Dental Exam Form 

    • Any other legal documents:
      Child Custody, Restraining Orders, etc.
