Library Media & Technology

The curriculum is currently being revised to incorporate the new AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner.  Media & Information Literacy instruction occurs best in the context of the school curriculum where students have a need to know and are guided by a standard of excellence set by their classroom teachers in collaboration with the school librarian. School libraries provide flexible and equitable access to all in both physical and digital spaces.

Beyond its curricular role, the school librarians: 

• Ensure that members of the learning community have a venue for exploring questions 
• Provide leadership in the constructive, safe & ethical use of information technologies for both students and staff 
• Offer expertise in accessing and evaluating information
• Develop high quality print and digital collections resources representing various points of view on current, historical and personal interest

The school library program is based on long-range goals developed through strategic planning and reflecting the mission of the school.  Policies, procedures and guidelines are developed to maintain the school library program.  For more information on the role of school libraries, click here.

District-wide library policies were revised in 2013 to provide schools with guidance on collection development, emerging technology & social media use (AUP), and ethical use of information.
